Compass Group Australia's 2010 Chosen Charities - KIDS Foundation and Telethon Institute for Child Health Research

Last Christmas, Compass Group Australia employees chose to support and donate a very generous $15,000 to both the KIDS Foundation and

Telethon Institute for Child Health Research instead of receiving a personal 2009 staff Christmas gift.

Compass Group Australia plans to support these great not-for-profit organisations by raising much needed funds for the next 12-18 months to help them burn survivors, children living with life-changing injuries and children suffering from childhood diseases and disabilities.

On April 15, George Mifsud officially presented our donation from Eastern Region staff (QLD, NSW, VIC, TAS, and SA) to Susie O’Neill, Founder of the KIDS Foundation. Susie is delighted to bring the KIDS Foundation and Compass Group together, as our organisations share similar goals and values. “Our new partnership will produce some exciting fundraising opportunities and Compass Group employees can be proud of the difference they’re able to make to so many children’s lives.”

For the Western Region employees (WA and NT), Paul Nugent officially presented $15,000 to Professor Fiona Stanley, 2003 Australian of the Year, from the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research; helping in the developmental research dedicated to the prevention of childhood diseases and disabilities.

Our continuous donations will help researchers investigate the causes and find innovative solutions to the most common or debilitating conditions - including childhood cancers, asthma and allergies, birth defects, mental health problems, infections and disability.

During the coming months, there will be more opportunities for all employees and their families to become involved in fundraising.

We are creating our very own Compass Kids Cookbook, which will be on sale in time for Christmas.

We have encouraged the children in our lives to get busy in the kitchen to help support the children in the care of the KIDS Foundation and the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research – who are “kids” just like them. The proceeds from this book will go entirely to support the fabulous work of the KIDS Foundation and Telethon Institute for Child Health Research, because every child deserves the best support we can give.

We encourage everyone to support the children of the KIDS Foundation and the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research.

INDIGENOUS PARTICIPATION EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM   (ITEP)

Compass Group was a foundation member of Corporate Leaders for Indigenous Employment and for over 10 years now, has sought to demonstrate corporate leadership in the area of Indigenous Participation.

We do this through a simple but effective combination of three focus areas:

ü  Indigenous Employment,

ü  Indigenous Commercial Joint Ventures, and;

ü  Indigenous Community Initiatives.

Compass Group measures its success in Indigenous employment through participation rates as a percentage of its total workforce at its work location.

Since its inception in 1998, Compass Group’s commercial joint venture arrangements with Indigenous communities have grown to become an important contributor, in terms of dividends and capability building, to our Indigenous partners and their associated communities.

Compass Group has committed funds and in-kind services at the request of and in cooperation with Indigenous communities to support community goals.

The Australian Employers Network on Disability is a not for profit organisation funded by its members to take a leadership role in advancing employment for people with disability.

The Australian Employers Network on Disability was started in 2000 by a group of employers who had successfully employed people with disability, and won a Prime Minister’s Employer of the Year award.

Compass Group is proud to have been accepted as a Platinum Member to this Network.

Platinum membership is restricted only to organisations which publicly committed to the association when it was first established back in 2000.
