Compass in the Community
Environmental & Sustainability

Compass Group is currently implementing a broad range of environmental & sustainability initiatives, which address environmental issues such as:

ü  Emissions to air

ü  Water consumption

ü  Resources usage

ü  Procurement & Supply Chain

ü  Waste production

ü  Environmental awareness

We implement, on a daily basis, our Compass Environmental Handbook; an environmental management tool.

Compass Group has subscribed to a new environmental framework called ‘Green Table Australia’; a scheme designed to reduce environmental impacts from the food sector.

We are currently aiming to reduce emissions we produce from our operations.

In 2008, Compass Group Australia started to report to Compass Global through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), another recognised environmental management tool.

We have started a new pilot program to work collaboratively to reduce our environmental impacts with all our suppliers.

We are also implementing environmental communications, surveys, training and awareness programs to influence all our stakeholders, starting from our staff, clients, customers, subcontractors, suppliers, governmental bodies and the broad community.

Compass Group Australia is proud to announce the following internationally recognised certifications for all of our Australian locations

  • ENVIRONMENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM AS/NZS ISO 14001:2004
  • SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM  AS/NZS 4801:2001
  • QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS AS/NZS ISO 9001:2000

Green Table Australia

Green Table Australia Environmental Certification is a framework hosted by the Restaurant & Catering Australia Association, it is intended to recognise restaurants and catering businesses that are doing what they can to reduce their greenhouse gas (GHGs) emissions and lessen their general impact on the environment.

Compass Group has attained corporate accreditation to the GTA Environmental Certification program and through our audit process, we have identified 60 sites that meet the requirements of the

Environmental Certification Program.

We have uploaded the key requirements of the Environmental Certification Assessment into the AudIT Compliance Monitoring System, and as the HSEQ and Internal Audit Team undertake their Balanced Scorecard Audits on site, they will also audit the site for compliance to the GTA Environmental Certification Programme.

Some of the requirements that must be demonstrated for sites to be awarded certification to the Green Table Australia Environment Assessment include:

ü  Recycling waste resource material;

ü  Using appropriate stock management techniques to reduce waste resource production;

ü  Using natural gas to run stoves and ovens where gas is available;

ü  Installing water efficient low flow taps on all faucets and showers;

ü  Using products made from recycled materials where possible.
